The images were made in two locations foreign to each other but resonant with the same grit and knowledge of the land: county fairs in the Hudson Valley of New York and fairs or auctions in England's Lake District. In both I have focused on children - 4-H youngsters in America, Young Handlers in England - whose organizations are devoted to sustaining local farms and markets.
